In Celebration of the Deron Williams Extension

I thought it was time to inject a little testosterone onto the blog. Although Deron Williams didn't extend for the max amount of time, I am still really excited to have him in Utah for at least 4 more years. Here is a clip of some Deron Williams highlights. If you are a Jazz fan enjoy!

Grandma Evelyn and the girls

One of the most disappointing things about accidentally deleting the pictures from our Yellowstone vacation was losing a picture of our girls with Grandma Evelyn (Cory's Grandma). (Thanks again to our parents for letting us glean from their photos to create our slide show, etc.) Since she was here visiting this weekend, I thought it would be a good idea to get another picture of her with the girls. Unfortunately, I waited until the last second to take it, so all the girls are in their pj's. I thought it was still a cute picture though.

Morning at the Museum

This week we went with some friends to the Museum of Peoples and Cultures at BYU to learn about pottery. We saw some displays, read a book about a man who made a pot, and then we got to try our hand at pottery making.

Here are a few pictures of the cool things we saw. My favorite is the dog shaped pot. It had a hollow tail that could wither be used to put something like flowers in, or possibly be used as a pitcher (but that seems a little gross!).

Here are pictures of Anne creating her masterpieces (a turtle and a bowl).

Here are pictures of all the girls at work and Abbey's masterpiece (the first one is in the earlier stages, and the second is the completed work of art).

Here are pictures of Olivia making her "stepping stones" and Jane wishing she were making pottery too. (I guess I'm a mean mom for not letting her become a "Messy Bessy" as she said yesterday.)

Getting Crafty

Most of you know that my girls are definitely girly-girls and love to wear skirts. This month in Family Fun Magazine there was an article on converting old jeans into skirts. I thought this was a cool idea. I tried it and thought I'd pass it on. The magazine gave no-sew instructions, but since I didn't have fabric glue, and I feel pretty confident in my sewing abilities, I decided to sew them. Since I'm not yet computer savvy enough to create a link, I thought I'd give my own instructions. (If these aren't very good, or if you prefer no-sew, I'm sure you could google it and find their instructions). It only took about 45 minutes to get out my sewing machine and sew the skirts.

Here's a picture of the girls modeling them. (The insructions follow so if you're not interested in reading them you can stop reading here.)

First, you cut the jeans off at the knees ( I cut just above the holes) at a length you want. Then cut along the seam on the crotch of the jeans. On the front, you cut it to within abut an inch of the fly. In the back, I just cut until it seemed like it would lay flat when I overlapped the piece. Then I cut the seam on the cut off porion of the jeans. I took this fabric and filled in the triangle that was created when I cut the jeans. I pinned it in place and top stictched along the seams. Then I trimmed off the excess fabric. I then left the botton un-hemmed, I'm washing them today to see how well that actually works. The girls loved them and couldn't wait to wear them. Here is a picture of the back of Olivia's skirt. There was a small hole in the bum, so I took a few extra scraps and made a heart shaped patch.

A Fond Farewell

June 30 was a sad but fun day for us. Our cousins Emma, Lucy and Ike came to play with us for the last time before moving to Las Vegas. We went swimming in Grandma's pool and had a blast!
Here's a picture of Abbey and Lucy.
And Olivia and Ike

And Emma and Anne

After swimming for several hours, we went home for pizza and the girls played until late in the night enjoying their last sleepover for a while. In the morning, we had breakfast and said our good-byes. They loaded themselves into the van and headed off on their lateset adventure. (They did pause long enough for me to snap a few pictures.) Ike was really excited to get to ride in the big moving truck. (I love this picture!)

Here are the girls, maybe not so enthusiastic, but glad that they've got each other

and the truck pulling out

Bet wishes for this new stage of your lives. We love you guys!
